We are back from vacation, and are wondering if you have any questions – things you would like to know about the history of the Idle Hour community – anything you have ever wondered about? We may not know the answer, but give us a try – we will do our best…..

My question is in regards to the Stirrup Cup Castle. Some Oakdale websites say its location was between the gas station on the corner of Oakdale-Bohemia Road and the West Sayville Firehouse and some say it’s where the Firehouse is now. Can anyone answer this question exactly?

I’d like to know more about the Artist’s Colony @ Idle Hour. What can you tell me about the old place. I know that it once housed Tally Ho, and was the original Vanderbilt farm… but that’s about it. I’ll be doing a video podcast about the area once I’ve finished my research. Would you, or do you know anyone who’d be interested in giving me a walking tour through the area? You/they would be credited in the podcast, of course.
The area is one of the semi hidden “gems” that make up the history of our Island, and I’d like to tell the story.
